What is syllable?

Syllable is a word or a part of a word uttered by a single effort of the voice.

Example: –

Mo+ther = Mother

Edu+ca+tion = Education

 

Kinds of Syllable in English grammar: Syllables are four in number.

Such as:

                 1. Mono-syllable

                 2. Di-syllable

                 3. Tri- syllable

                 4. Poly- syllable

 

 1. Mono-syllable

 Mono-syllable is a word which contains only one syllable in a word.

Example:- It, And, But, Or, etc.

 

2. Di-syllable

 Di-syllable is a word which contains two syllables in a word.

Example:-

Brother = Bro + ther.

Teacher = Tea + cher.

 

3. Tri- syllable

 Tri- syllable is a word which contains three syllables in a word.

Example:-

Education = Edu + ca + tion.

Favourite = Fa + vour + ite.

 

 4. Poly- syllable

  Poly- syllable is a word which contains more than three syllables in a word.

Example:-

Calculation = Cal + cu + la + tion.

Satisfaction = Sat + is + fac + tion.
